by: Jean Woods Wow, it’s gotten cold around here in a hurry. Maybe the grosbeaks had it right. The whole flock left about a month early. All of a sudden the wooden bird feeders still have food in them by the time the sun goes down and there are no bright yellow clowns in my garden fountain, I am so sad. I miss their silliness. For some reason, they left behind one single pair of fledglings born this year. I have no idea why. They looked lonely sitting on one of the ornamental bird feeders. Our birdy feeders have been seemingly sparse lately, or so we thought but then we realized we have attracted bully birds to our porch. The crows have always been a welcome bird. For the most part they do not harm or disturb the other little birds. We began feeding them and then branched out to other birds. Soon, we had many birds and the pigeon showed up. Again, they came but did not disturb the other birds. They ate and left. So, we did not fret about them. And yet ANOTHER excellent shopping experience with Birds Out Back — I believe my porch is a testament to their store, it perhaps may be a small outlet of their store. =) Cedar Garden Feeder – large I hung this feeder in a place where it had plenty of room to get visitors without walls or wood impeding them. We got a new visitor today! =) A Rock Pigeon or Columba Livia. He can come in many colors but it is a definitely a Rock Pigeon. Apparently, they are found all over the world and there are 12 subspecies. Baby pigeons are called squabs.
